Sangarajha Cave

According to the hearsay, King Wijayabahu sworn during the Polonnaruwa Era hide himself in a cave situated in the eastern slope of Ambuluawava Rock, fearing of Chola invaders and directed his forces from therein.

Ambagamuwa Shila documents refer that King Vijayabahu I, after winning the battle gifted villages like Upalanaya when the preparation of pathway towards Sri Pada. This cave used as a shelter of Ven. Yogis from the Polonnaruwa Era. In addition to that, the Aludeniya Vihara copies say that a Ven. Bikshu from forest and well as Vihara of Low Country visited Up Country and came to Illuppessa in Ambuluwava.

As such, the Aludeniya Vihara copies record that Ven. Sangarajha Thero of Sooriyagoda Viharaya was visited to Ambuluwava and lived in a cave. Hence, the Ven. Yogis were lived there, it was named after as Sangarajha Cave.

Ranthatiya Pond

This pond is situated in the lower side of the South Western direction of the Ambuluwava mountain peak in Galpaya Division. Aural saying refer that the pond springs water during even heavy drought period too.

Historical information reveal that a queen named Hena Kande Biso Bandara, during the King Vijayabahu – III period, on a visit to view the forest beauty was decided to ease her thirsty and stretched her hands towards the pond. At once, 7 gold plates were floated on the water. When she took one plate of them the rest were went down to under water. After drinking from the golden plate she put it in to the pond. Hence the golden plates floated in the pond, it was named after as Ranthatiya Pond.

Tembekumbura Boundary Stone

This isolated stone located adjoining the rail track of Kosgolla, ikn the Wallahgoda Grama Niladhari Division, to mark the Tembekumbura boundaries. Shape of a dog and a crow has carved on it.

As it is believed as a holy property and if any one consumed will become as a dog or a crow in re birth. According to Wansa Katha, King Wickramabahu – III of Gampola Kingdom has rendered a great service to the Sasana. As it was mentioned that a paddy field was sacread to the Walwasagoda Rajamaha Viharaya. It is believed that this boundary stone utilized to mark the ownership of that period.

Diya Bubula

This historically important center is situated in the Wallahagoda Division. As the history says that the kings were considered making pilgrimage to Samangiri Adaviya count good deeds. Aural sayings mentioned that the route was tracked via Ambuluwava rock, adjoining Wallahagoda Rajamaha Viharaya complex.

Diyabubula was one of resting station in this route and it also considered a resting station of Sri Pada pilgrims of Shalagama.

At present, we can find this Diyabubula spring in Hathugoda village, which was named Shalagama in those days in the Herakola Grama Niladhari Division, very close to the Walwasagoda Grama Niladhari Division.

Walwasagoda Devalaya and Rajamaha Viharaya

It is famous that the historic Walwasagoda Devalaya was constructed before Walwasagoda Viharaya being built. Parallel to the archeological valued Kandy Daladha Perahera, an annual Perahera conducted after 15 days of it, safeguarding the historical ritual traditions in this ancient holy center.

Vetakedeniya Rest

This is locates in Vetakedeniya. It was a resting center and nearly 100 years old rest. Peoples come from Selawa in Aranayaka. The roof of this rest was divided in to 4 sections.

Galpaya Rest

Galpaya Rest is located in Meetalawa area. It is believed that the ancient pilgrims of Sri Pada used it as a rest. It is noted in its wood that a Muslin trader has made this rest after 1924.

Uduwella Rest

It is located in the village of Uduwella. A school was conducted in it in the early period. Later it seems to be in a dilapidated level.

Asupini Falls or Tiskumara Hela

This waterfall is situated between Rahalagala rock and Malgolla rock in the boundary of Uduwella, Paahalagama in the Uduwella Grama Niladhari Division in Ganga Ihala Korale. It is a panoramic waterfall with two stages in its fall, approximately 300 feet in height and 40 feet in width. This center is an important sight center with historical and beauty values. Ma-Oya is its starting point and it is considered as a superb creation of the Nature.

Rakshawa (Raasagala) Mountain Peak or Kinihiriyagala Rock

It is noted that it is considered the most important place in the Ganga Ihala Korale Divisional Secretariat Division. Aural reports say that more information can be collected from it. Ma-Oya starts to flow from this Rakshawa peak. This area is nourished by the Ma-Oya waters. Valuable herbal medicinal plants and creatures can be found in this area.

Deer, antelope, wild bulls, mighty squirrels, owls, monkeys and jungle fowl are leading among them. According to the historical information, King Rawana’s arms making workshops were found here and the natural wind of this area was used for blowing fire for workshops.

The pond on the top of the rock was used to make live for arms. What the aural say truth or false, there were proofs that the area was engaged in iron industry. This is proven by calling this area as Kinihiriyaga Kanda. Alugolla, the village people say that the waste of iron industry was dumped here and named after Alugolla. Peoples of this area say that waste and plasters can be seen in this areas even today and they named it as Sita Guly.

King Rawana’s jewels were hidden in this area was called Abaranagala and later called Baranagala and Tolobo trees planted to mark the wedding ceremony with qeen Sita is calling Tolobowela, even today. As such, it is noted that the King Rajathi Rajasinghe has taken explosives form the areas of Rakshawa.

Kabaragala

Kabaragala is a mountain range with a panoramic and beautiful tourist attraction center, situated in Tolobowila village, in the Pitakanda No. 1054 Grama Niladhari Division, within the authority areas of Ganga Ihala Korale Pradeshiya sabha, in Nawalapiriya Electorate in Kandy District in the Central Province. It is a high land surrounded by Dolosbage mountain range, Saptha Kanya mountain range, Delugala mountain, Bathalgala kanda, Ambuluwava and Hanthana mountain range. It is in a with a geological features 1500 feet above mean sea level can have a clear view of Sri Pada mountain and also can view Ramboda falls and Geradi falls.

Kabaragala mountain is very attractive place, can have clearly views of the geological features from Nuwar Eliya, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Matale Districts. Kinihira is adjoining Rakshagala rock, which is in Dolosbage mountain range, having similar geological features like Horton Plains and World’s End in Kabaragala, a zone with natural reserves, grassland and plains. It consist four natural view centers and plains where can be built camps there. Having a bio-diversity environment with one crop and one native creature. It is nourished with South Western Monsoon and Trade wind annual rainfalls counting an average record 3350 mm and an annual temperature count 20 – 27 centigrade in this region.
